Josh and I checked a big to-do off our wedding checklist this past weekend. We printed our wedding invitations! It’s so funny that for someone who is as obsessed with stationary and office supplies as I am how little I wanted to spend on our wedding stationary.
We made our Save the Dates ourselves and only spent $20 on them. We were so happy with how they turned out we decided to do the same thing with our wedding invitations.
According to the Bridal Association of America the average costs of wedding invitations is $659. Josh and I spotted this blank template from Michaels and the birds spurred the whole theme for our wedding. We love how detailed the invitations are and how high quality they are. Better yet, 150 invitations was $75. We really couldn’t beat the price.
I love how everything fits together and how nicely it looks when opened.
Sorry for being lame and blurring things out (most of which you already know) but you can never be too careful on the internet. Josh and I had so much fun picking the wording of the invitations. We thought this was the perfect blend of formal and intimate.
Probably the thing I was most excited about deviating from the standard on was the response cards. I hated the generic attending or not attending and the confusing M______ line for guests to write their names. We liked accept with pleasure and decline with regret. I think it gives the response a little more pizzazz. We also figured that having people list their names would be easier and that asking them to initial their food choice would keep us from getting confused about who ordered what.
I am in love with how these invitations turned out. The box sets from Michaels comes with software to use to format the invitations. Honestly, this is where I thank goodness that Josh understands computers/ programming. He was a pro and got these done before I would have even figured out how to format the paper in the printer.

Those look GREAT! We made our own as well. That’s what happens when your husband is a designer. It was fun. We made an assembly line: stamp, glue, fold, seal. Something you can look back on and remember that it had a personal touch. Nicely done.
We actually made the First Lady’s birthday invites, too.

I’m sure the First Lady’s birthday party invites were absolutely adorable! I love photos, I’m so glad Josh and I were able to get the photographer of our dreams for the wedding. Beautiful pictures were number one on my must have list.

Aw thank you! I was so excited with how they turned out. It’s always risky to do something yourself, but I’ve done a lot of risky things with the wedding so far (like buy my wedding dress used and online from a seller halfway across the country!) so why stop now? haha

“Back in the day” (10 years ago) when I got married, we ordered our invitations online…it certainly didn’t cost us $600. That’s crazy!
Wedding prices in general are crazy! I can’t imagine spending a down payment on a house for one day.
I love your invitations! We didn’t DIY for ours, but I can’t imagine spending so much on invites, 90% of people throw them away anyway
